Registration Information

For information on the recruit academy program Contact Recruit Academy Chief Chad Kuchler

Registration form, candidate package, and payment information are required for Recruit registration. The Recruit Academy packet contains all Academy information pertaining to sponsored or non-sponsored/out of state candidates. It is important that each candidate review the entire packet before deciding to register for the Recruit Academy. The 11-page candidate package, including the 2-page medical release form signed by an MD or DO, must be submitted to FETA no later than two weeks prior to Day 1 of the Recruit Academy. The packet is updated periodically so please be sure you are downloading the current packet directly from our website. Previous versions of the packet will not be accepted. Since the candidate package is not due until two weeks prior to the Academy start date, spots in the class can be reserved by submitting the registration form and payment information at any time; the candidate package can be submitted later. Several pages must be signed by the recruit and the sponsored Fire Chief if applicable.

Please Note: Reading and passing written examinations is an essential element of many of the FETA programs. Requests for accommodations for disabilities will be considered.

Individuals with disabilities may have different types of limitations that affect their abilities to take tests. The Americans with Disabilities Act (as amended) (ADAA) and the Rehabilitation Act ensure that individuals with disabilities have the opportunity to have equal and fair access. This equal and fair access is accomplished through reasonable testing accommodations at the Louisiana Fire and Emergency Training Academy. Requests for accommodations will be considered on a case by case basis once adequate contemporary documentation of the disability and need for the specific accommodations requested have been provided. Accommodations which would alter essential elements of a particular program, included but not limited to reading and passing written examinations, will not be granted. To request the accommodations paperwork and process, please follow the directions on the memorandum below.

**The VA requires that all prior courses, credits and military training/experience be evaluated for potential transfer credit towards a student’s training program. Transcripts must be turned in prior to the start of a training program.  Each transfer student will have their previous training and courses evaluated prior to their enrollment at the Training Academy.  Appropriate credit will be given for any applicable transfer credit/prior training and experience at the time a prior credit evaluation is completed.

Refund Policy

A full refund is issued if cancellation is confirmed in writing at least two weeks prior to Day 1 of the Academy. Charges are refundable in full if FETA cancels the class.

Before orientation and the first day of class, the Center-Based Municipal program incurs expenses for the preparation of the coming recruit academy. Once the recruits arrive, we issue shirts and books, provide meals and lodging, and perform a medical exam to make sure they are fit for duty. Based on these costs, we are establishing a refund schedule for any recruit leaving our academy before the end of the fourteen weeks.

In the event that a recruit is either dismissed by the Academy or their Department, a refund shall be the total cost of the Academy tuition divided by the number of weeks attended. Attending any part of the week shall be counted as attending the entire week. All Academy materials shall be returned, such as the student manual, recruit shirts, etc. The cost of any materials that are not returned to the Academy shall be deducted from the tuition. Failure to maintain the passing grade point average, failing any test, failing to meet the physical and/or medical requirements measured on Orientation day will be cause for dismissal.
