Course Description:


This course is designed to meet the professional development needs of the advanced fire prevention or code enforcement official. The course provides the advanced knowledge and skills to conduct detailed fire safety inspections, to analyze the level of fire and life safety in buildings, and to understand the operation principles, application, acceptance testing, and inspection of fire prevention systems and equipment. Part of the class activity is to have students use the codes being enforced in their jurisdiction. Familiarization with local codes is recommended.

This course meets the objectives of NFPA 1031, Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector Level II. At the conclusion of the class, the student will be able to prepare reports on fire safety issues using the proper codes and standards; conduct research of the various codes to address deficiencies noted during a site visit; develop a checklist to complete fire safety inspections; and give a legal deposition given the findings of an inspection, plan review, or complaint.

Prerequisite(s):


The Student must be a certified Fire Inspector I from the Louisiana Firefighter Certification Program or another agency accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board. Students must be able to pass the practical skills assessment given in order to take the written exam.

Certification:


Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Fire Inspector II certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program.

The Fire Inspector II certification examination is offered by the Fire-fighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program to the students who successfully complete the course. This is optional and will be given at the conclusion of the course.

There is a separate charge for taking the certification exam; it is not included in the course fees. Details of the certification process and examination material can be found under the certification tab on the main page of the website.

*If more than one course price is shown, the first price applies to all Louisiana Municipal Fire Departments who are issued a Fire Department ID from the State Fire Marshal's Office and are supported by the 2% Fire Insurance Fund. The second price applies to all non-Louisiana Municipal Fire Departments including state agencies (in-state and out-of-state), out-of-state fire departments, federal agencies, and the private sector, etc.
