Course Description:


This course covers basic inspection procedures. It is recognized and approved by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. It meets the requirements for conducting inspections in existing structures, as identified by the State Fire Marshal’s requirements. This course meets the objectives of NFPA 1031, Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector Level I.

The course will enable students to prepare reports on fire safety issues using the proper codes and standards; conduct research of the various codes to address deficiencies noted during a site visit; develop a checklist to complete fire safety inspections; and give a legal deposition given the findings of an inspection, plan review, or complaint.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be recommended to take the Fire Inspector I certification examination offered by the Louisiana Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program.

Certification:


The Fire Inspector I certification examination is offered by the Firefighter and Emergency Responder Certification Program to the students who successfully complete the course. This is optional and will be given at the conclusion of the course.

The Student must be certified in Hazardous Materials Aware-ness from the Louisiana Fire-fighter Certification Program or another agency accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board. Students must be able to pass the practical skills assessment given in order to take the written exam.

There is a separate charge for taking the certification exam; it is not included in the course fees. Details of the certification process and examination material can be found under the certification tab on the main page of the website.

80% attendance and participation is required in order to successfully complete the course and receive the course completion certificate. Pre-tests and Post-tests may be given to assess the knowledge obtained from the course. More Notes »
