Course Description:
This course is for all industrial personnel working in management, fire protection, security, or production. The school, conducted for three days, consists of classroom instruction, demonstrations, and practical field exercises. Subjects to be covered in the classroom and demonstrations are: Fire Behavior, Fire Control, Foam, Fire Extinguishers, ICS, FF Safety & SCBA.
The field evolutions include: hose handling, portable extinguishers, liquid spill fires, pressurized liquid, and pressurized gas fires. This course meets OSHA requirements for interior structural fire fighting annual hands-on training OSHA 1910.134, Rapid Intervention Teams for IDLH conditions, and NFPA Standard 600, Industrial Fire Brigade.
Health:
All students should be in good health and must be willing to submit to medical monitoring by FETA staff. Medical monitoring will be discussed on the opening morning of the class.
Clothing:
he class. Long pants shall be worn at all times. T-shirts are permitted to be worn, permitted the shirt is full length (no cut-off shirts) and has a full sleeve. (Long-sleeved shirts are recommended) Tank tops are not to be worn. Open toed shoes are not permitted (safety toes are not required).
Equipment Needed:
Day 1: Work clothing including long pants, shoes (that might get a bit wet or muddy), hard hat, gloves, and eye protection. The only evolution on the field the 1st day does not involve any fire.
Day 2 and 3: full bunker gear.
PPE Requirements:
Students, or their sponsoring agency, are required to provide the necessary protective clothing (bunker coat, pants, boots, gloves, helmet, hoods etc.) that meets the NFPA Standard 1971: Protective Ensemble for Structural Fire Fighting. Also long-sleeve shirts and long pants are to be worn under the protective clothing at all times. Inspection of protective clothing will precede training to assure that equipment meets requirements. Students without appropriate protective clothing will not be allowed to participate in practical training.
